Since childhood, I am very much fond of listening to stories of various kinds. Whenever my grandmother used to be with me she used to tell me about fairy tales, Aladin and his wander lamp, Cinderella, Rapunzel and many more. My mother makes me fall asleep at every night by reading different stories. Now I can read stories myself my father buys me many story books with lots of beautiful pictures in them. He says it is very important to develop a reading habit from a young age. Today I will discuss the importance of reading books:
Reading stories is essential for our proper emotional development. When we read a story we read about various events, places, and characters and develop a sense of affection and friendliness towards some characters. Reading helps to increase our language skills, enhances confidence level and helps us to cope with our feelings. Through reading stories we can know about people’s lives, culture, and tradition of places which we have not visited.
Learning in a Natural Way
In our school when our teacher tells us stories, she introduces us to many new words and ideas. We also learn about developing our moral values of kindness, love, compassion, sympathy through reading various storybooks. Many stories come with a lesson through which we can distinguish between the right and the wrong. While reading a story we remain so much engrossed in it that learning happens in a natural way.
De-Stress and Relax
Reading stories helps us to relax. When we read stories before going to bed we can forget about the stresses of our life and pamper ourselves in the world of fantasy. The calming familiarity of our precious storybooks, the rhymes, and repetition of a picture book and a sense of security as we spend time in reading helps us to relax and rest.
Fosters Our Imagination
Reading stories enhances our imagination by introducing new ideas to us. It may be about the miraculous world, space, and other planets, fictitious characters, and events about historic times. Thus, reading story books develops our imagination and creative abilities.
Increases Focus and Attention
Reading habits from an early age help to develop our ability to pay attention and allow us to increase our concentration level to a large extent. Because when we read, we get engrossed in the concept that the book offers.
Enhances a Thirst to Know More
While we read books we can know the world around us and develop inquisitiveness in our minds. In this way, it stimulates a thirst for knowledge, to know more, to ask questions and to seek their answers.
Books are our true companions as they help us to get refreshed by forgetting all our anxieties and worries. It takes us to a different world, away from our regular space and lets us virtually live the life of others. It helps us know many things which we did not know that it existed.
