Visiting new places is always fun. The best part is I get my days off from school. I have often been told by Dadda and Mamma that Agra is a very beautiful place. I was very happy when they told me that this time our vacation in India would involve a trip to Agra. My parents have always told me how our country is rich in cultural heritage and the importance of exploring them. So here I was, very excited to begin my journey.
After we reached Agra, Dadda told me about the Taj Mahal besides other things to see here. He also told me that my trip to Agra would be incomplete without me visiting it. So it was the first thing in my to-do list in Agra.
My Experience at the Taj Mahal
The Taj Mahal was a whole white marble building with a watercourse running through gardens in front. We went down the staircase that guides us down through the monument. There we saw the graves of the king and the queen under the dome in a dark chamber. The walls were decorated with multicolored pieces of glass and couplets form the Quran. The four minarets stood as watch men at each of the main building.
We visited the Taj again that night the next day. Its beauty was all the more enhanced in the silvery light of the moon. It was a memorable scene. I was thrilled to see its reflections in the river Yamuna. Mumma told me that this was built by Shah Jahan in the loving memory of his wife, Mumtaz.
I asked Dadda who they were. He said, they were some King and Queen of the Mughal Era. For once I thought I was in a different time zone and could feel living in their times. I closed my eyes and opened them again to find it was a reality Nay! It was to a dream.
Getting Around Agra
This is how my visit to the Taj Mahal was. It was time for me to explore the rest of the city. Dadda took us to a place called Sadar bazaar for shopping. Here I saw marble stone and inlay works. There were very big emporiums too. We also attended a music and dance show in the evening.
It was so nice that I wanted to stay there for more but Mumma said we should hurry up, as there were more places to see. Next we went to a restaurant called Park where we had good Chinese food. Mumma gifted me a nice replica of the Taj Mahal to take back home with us.
We had to bid goodbye to Agra. I must say our holiday was wonderful although we had very few days to spend. A feeling of sadness took over me that I have to leave that place but Nani says everything has to come to an end to give rise to new experience. I am all the more eager to share my story with my friends. Thank you Mumma and Dadda for this beautiful memory!
